Leesburg Restorative Dentistry

Fortunately, the incidence of tooth decay has diminished over the years due to the use of fluorides and an increase in patient awareness. However, teeth are still susceptible to decay, infection, breakage, wear and even loss.  Through improved techniques and modern technology we are now able to offer more options for restoring a tooth and replacing missing teeth back to normal shape, appearance and function.

Should you need restorative care, we will discuss with you your choices and recommend what we believe to be the most appropriate and least invasive treatment. The types of restorative care that we can provide are:

Fillings

There are several types of filling materials available.  They include composite (tooth colored), amalgam (silver), porcelain and gold, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Crowns

When there is more extensive tooth loss or the need to protect a weakened tooth, a crown is often the restoration of choice. Crowns can be made of metal or porcelain and are placed over a tooth to strengthen it.  They can also be used to cover implants, protect a cracked tooth, and to restore worn and discolored teeth.

Bridges

Bridges are dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth. There are several types of bridges. The most common type is made of porcelain fused to metal and consists of crowns that go over anchor teeth (abutments) and are attached to artificial teeth (pontics) to fill in a space.

Full and Partial Dentures

They are removable appliances for replacing missing teeth and surrounding tissue.  The extent of the denture depends on the number of missing teeth.

Implant Restorations

One of the biggest advances in dentistry is the placement of artificial roots (implants) to replace missing teeth. These serve as anchors to which a single crown, bridge, partial or full denture can be attached.  Dental implants are usually made of titanium and typically provide a long term restorative treatment option.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

Full mouth reconstruction is the process of rebuilding or simultaneously restoring all of the teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. This may include porcelain veneers, crowns, implants, tooth bonding, bridges, partials and dentures depending on the degree of tooth damage or loss.  This differs from a “smile makeover” which is an elected procedure to enhance the esthetics of your smile.
